Stercom Power Solutions will be represented at BahnCongress Bayern 2026 in Nuremberg with a technical presentation. The annual event brings together experts from industry, research, and politics to discuss current developments and innovations in the railway sector.

As part of our membership in CNA e.V., we are pleased to contribute our technologies and expertise to the congress for the first time. The network connects companies, research institutions, and organizations along the entire railway value chain and promotes innovation in rail technology.

Technical Presentation: Battery Management Systems for Safety-Critical Railway Applications

The focus of our presentation is the modular Battery Management System BMS-X, specifically developed for safety-critical applications. Electrified trains and hybrid propulsion systems impose particularly high requirements on reliability, functional safety, and system integration.

The hardware platform is based on the powerful AURIX TriCore microcontroller family from Infineon Technologies and is combined with high-precision measurement and monitoring electronics from Analog Devices. This results in a robust and scalable system architecture for demanding energy and mobility applications.

A key element of the development approach is end-to-end model-based software development using MATLAB/Simulink. The software is automatically generated from the ALM system and runs on a PXROS-based operating system. This workflow ensures consistency between requirements, system architecture, and implementation.

Special attention is given to functional safety: The measurement system provides validated data with clearly defined quality characteristics. This data is systematically processed and forms a reliable basis for safety-relevant functions in modern energy systems.

Platform Architecture for Flexible Applications

The system architecture enables a clear separation between base software and customer-specific application software. This allows both layers to be developed independently – a key advantage for OEMs, ensuring that the Stercom platform and customer-specific functions remain clearly separated.

The result is a powerful and highly adaptable Battery Management System suitable for a wide range of applications – from railway vehicles and off-highway machinery to stationary energy storage systems.

 Exchange at BahnCongress Bayern

BahnCongress Bayern provides an ideal platform for discussing future technologies in the railway industry. We look forward to engaging with partners, customers, and industry experts on topics such as electrified propulsion systems, energy storage solutions, and safe battery architectures.
